We are very lucky to have not just one, but two speakers to talk about membership development at NSYP19. The talk entitled “Benefits of IEEE membership and IEEE Student branch and chapters: benefits and structure” will be given by Ievgen Pichkalov and Dr. Andrejs Romānovs.

Ievgen Pichkalov graduated from the National Technical University of Ukraine, Faculty of Electronics, Department of Industrial Electronics as Master of Science. In 2013 he graduated from PhD Studies of the NTUU “Igor Sikorky KPI”.

Ievgen has vast experience in IEEE having served in all levels of executive management. He has served as his sections student branch chair, young professionals chair, and even chaired the section itself. He has chaired the sections PE/IA/IE Societies Joint Chapter.

Today he is the Region 8 Membership Development Subcommittee Chair, and UKRCON-2019 Chair, as well as the IEEE Ukraine Section Chair.

Joining Ievgen for the talk will be Andrejs Romānovs Dr.sc.ing., MBA, Associate Professor and Senior Researcher at the Information Technology Institute, Head of Dept. of Modelling and Simulation, Riga Technical University (Latvia). He is an expert of the Latvian Council of Science in the field of Information Technology; senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), chair of IEEE MRR Committee, past chair of IEEE R8 MD Subcommittee and IEEE Latvia Section, founder of IEEE Computer Society Latvia Chapter and IEEE Latvia Blockchain Group, member and academic advocate of Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), member of Latvian Simulation Society (LSS). He is the author of 90+ textbooks and papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings in the field of Information Technology, organized and participated in over 50 international scientific conferences, as well as in numerous national and international scientific technical projects.

Everything good that IEEE does comes from our members. Together we strive to “advance technology for humanity”, and without membership development we would not have the driven and talented membership pool that we are lucky to have today. All the programs, humanitarian work, education, networking opportunities, everything IEEE does comes from our members and having two of the people responsible for the membership drive underlines the importance of always continuing our search for new talented members.

This particular conference is based on sustainability and if we are to improve our engineering solutions; be smarter, more efficient, design better; then we need to keep recruiting the brightest and best engineers and this talk will outline some of the steps and strategies used to acomplish this.
